Donate to Graham Kassis’s Eagle Project of a Sensory Pathway
Donation protected
Hello my name is Graham Kassis and I am a Boy Scout from Troop 125 in Wellington, Fl. I have been involved in Scouting for seven years and I am proud of my 46 merit badges, 114 nights of camping and 405 service hours.
I am currently working on funding my Boy Scout Eagle Project to create an outdoor sensory pathway. This will benefit the special education students of Wellington Landings Middle School. The sensory pathway will give students the chance to use their senses and help them regulate their behaviors and emotions on varying surfaces.
The walking path will be separated into smaller sections with different surfaces to walk on. The materials for each section will be carpet, mulch, crushed shells, rocks, wood planks, gravel, pool noodles, and astro turf. The students will then get to experience walking on different surfaces. The sensory pathway will give students the chance to self-regulate, manage sensory overload and improve attention and focus.
With your donation, you will help support my Eagle Project and provide an outdoor area where students can improve balance and motor skills with their teachers and paraprofessionals.
This project is special to me because when I was younger I was in physical and occupational therapy four years. My therapists had me do a variety of things to improve my fine and gross motor skills and sensory issues. One example was walking on different surfaces to improve my balance and get used to different textures under me. In my research I have found that teenagers usually don’t outgrow their sensory sensitivities but can learn to help control them as they get older with practice.
With your donation, I will be able to buy all the materials required to help my peers and give back to my school community.
Thank you.
