My name is Gowtham Raj, an international student from India studying at the University of Bridgeport. Life took an unimaginable turn when I was involved in a catastrophic car accident in Waterbury, Connecticut, as a front-seat passenger. This devastating incident left me hospitalized for over two months, and I am still battling the physical, emotional, and financial aftermath.

I sustained severe injuries, including burns all over my body, a broken femur requiring a rod placement, a fractured left foot, and a broken right hand. Stitches now mark my body, serving as constant reminders of the trauma, face fractures and as well as 9 screws and plate on the right hand. Beyond the physical pain, the accident has left me deeply scarred emotionally and financially. My hospital bills have soared to an overwhelming $100,000 an amount I cannot shoulder alone as a student far from home.

The accident has not only left me bedridden and in pain but also struggling to cope with the mental and emotional trauma. Each day is a battle as I try to rebuild my strength, mobility, and confidence. The burden is made heavier by my financial constraints as I try to navigate this challenging time.
