Goldie Rabon, our beautiful friend, is fighting to get her life back after a series of tragic events. We need your help. This is Goldie’s story.
In August 2021, she and her husband were diagnosed with Covid-19, that is where the tragedy started. On August 29th, she was hospitalized for 29 days in a hospital-induced coma, 2 weeks in ICU, 4 months in rehab, and another 18 months with home health aides. When she regained consciousness, she learned that her husband had died from Covid-19 while she was in a coma, leaving her a widow with 3 kids and serious health issues. In June 2023, she was released from all her treatments and her battle started to regain a normal life as best she could. It was a struggle to take care of a household and return to work after everything she had been through, but Goldie did it with a smile and a better attitude than most.
Fast forward to now, Goldie had contracted Covid-19 a second time and this time almost killed her again. On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, she was diagnosed again with Covid-19, which started another downhill spiral of health events. On the morning of August 14th, she tested positive for Covid, she called out of work and was going to rest for the day. She laid down for a nap and when she woke up, she was vomiting blood and losing consciousness. It was then that the paramedics were called because her situation had gotten too severe. The paramedics had to use every life-saving measure to get her to the hospital alive, she coded 4 times, needed 2 central lines in her femur and 6 plus units of blood. She made it to ECU Beaufort where they tried for 12 hours to stabilize her for transport to a hospital better equipped to handle her trauma. Once she transferred to ECU Greenville hospital, she was diagnosed with septic shock, toxic, broken vertebrae in her back, broken left arm (she’s left-handed), broken ribs from CPR, a severe GI bleed (she needed major surgery to repair) and a clot in her lung.
To help alleviate some of this financial burden, we’ve created a GoFundMe page to help support her in what is already one of the most difficult years of her life. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a tangible difference, helping to cover medical expenses, prescription medications, mortgage and other unforeseeable costs, which often accompany such a life-altering diagnosis.
By easing some of these financial worries, we can allow her to focus on what truly matters: her health and recovery.
