My sweet Cat's Cradle foster, Gemma, came to me from a feral cat colony with two remaining kittens from a 4-kitten litter. Jax and Opie died not long after arriving. During her spay surgery, she was diagnosed with a grade 4 heart murmur (grade 4 out of a 6) and further testing was required. Last week, the cardiology group at Virginia Tech diagnosed her with Pulmonic Stenosis. This is basically a problem with valves in her heart that are "pinching" the blood flow moving through her heart causing her heart to enlarge and eventually, congestive heart failure. CHF will be irreversible. This is a very dire prognosis without a life-saving balloon valvuloplasty which in essence blows open the valves that are not working correctly to open them and increase and correct the blood flow through her heart. With this surgery, her prognosis is very, very good and her quality of life greatly improves. This is a congenital condition, meaning she was born with it, and without this life-saving surgery, we don't know exactly how much time she has, but 50% of cats have passed by age 1. Please consider donating to help this sweet, sweet girl!!
