Get Jaime Home

Hi , My name is Christine and I'm fundraising for my cousin Jaime.
On June 18th, 2022 Jaime’s life changed in an instant. Imagine your ability to move vanishing in a literal second of time. That is all the time it took for Jaime to jump in a pool and be rendered immobile. He went from moving freely to being submerged in water and unable to swim! Within hours of the accident, he’s told he has a spinal cord injury with permanent effects and that it’s a “life changing event” for him and his family.
Jamie has had to face many harsh realizations about his spinal cord injury in the past two months. Aside from the obvious things like walking, he’s lost the ability to feed himself, pick up a cup of water, answer his phone and various other functionalities that create the independence and self-sufficiency many of us take for granted. Jaime is already facing the loss of many things he enjoys: dancing, exercising, drawing, playing guitar…yet he remains positive and upbeat.
Jamie spent weeks in the ICU, and another month at Beth Israel Hospital before being transferred to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown, where he is now. As expected, with Jamison’s lifelong determined and perseverant spirit, he continues to work aggressively in physical therapy and is part of groundbreaking experimental trials at Spaulding to help him regain feeling in his body. While Jamison’s battles in the hospital are many, he will also face several challenges when returning home. The expenses to be incurred to get Jaime home are tremendous and surprisingly many are NOT covered by insurance.
These are some of the items the funds from the gofundme would be used for:
1. Home Modifications. Accessible bathroom, doorway widening, ramps, Sleep Number bed (highly recommended to avoid pressure sores and avoid Nate having to wake up every 2 hours to shift him), medical equipment (lifts, shower chair etc), home adaptive equipment (voice controls for his computer to run the business, Alexa etc).
2. PCA (Personal Care Attendants) to help him with many basic tasks at home.
3. Journey Forward (https://journey-forward.org/). This program comes HIGHLY recommended and is a program Jamie’s Spaulding therapist thinks will maximize Jamie’s progress as quickly as possible. This program works on actually fixing the injury, not just getting you functionality to live with it. This is an opportunity for Jaime to get his old life back! Unfortunately, none of this program is covered by insurance.
4. A power chair accessible van.
Jamie is one of the most determined people I know and will push himself tirelessly to make as much progress as he can, as fast as he can. To many of us, Jamie is an amazing family member/friend and I know he would also do anything to help someone in need. Let’s help him keep the comfort of the home he and Nate have worked so hard for!
I know people have been financially impacted over the last few years, but no amount is too small. If you can’t donate, I completely understand and ask you to keep Jamie in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for your help!
