Yes, hi, hello!
My name is Gabby and I was recently involved in a pedestrian vs vehicle accident. On 10/7/2024 I was delivering mail to a CBU (the big metal locked community mailboxes) when a driver sped his car into the three CBU's, pinning my legs and back in-between his car/CBU's that were behind me and another CBU. Upon impact I was forced up about a foot and smashed my head into the CBU causing me to bite through my lip, breaking off my two front teeth, major bruising to my face that needed stitches and resulted in a concussion. My calves, shins, and thighs were crushed causing severe muscle, tissue, and possible nerve damage. I could not move my legs, multiple people had to peel me off the CBU and carry me to the ground, and needed ambulance transportation to a hospital 30 minutes away where I received ER care. I was admitted to the hospital for 3 days and required a walker to walk for the first month. There are still some unknowns to some of my injuries. As more of the swelling and bruising goes away doctors are more clearly able to diagnose injuries and with my mobility increasing other concerns with the health of my knees are showing up. I have little to no information as to what happened to the driver to cause this accident as, from what I've been told, they did not have him checked out and just sent him home after the accident. He may have also already had his license suspended/removed and possibly no insurance.
I am a Highway Contractor for the post office so I do not receive post office benefits and being out of work for the last 5+ weeks has caused some financial stress that my family and I were not expecting at all and really no one expects a freak accident such as this. I currently have no known date on when I will be able to return to work but soon I will be entering into physical therapy and mental health therapy as well. I have stayed as positive as I have been able to, more than I thought I'd be able to but, some thoughts are still intrusive, but I am happy to be alive and every day I am healing more and more.
