Fred Middleton's Recovery and Care

Hello, Everyone!

My name is Shelby.

I am putting this together for my wife’s colleague and friend, Fred Middleton. Fred is a gregarious guy with an indomitable positive spirit. He is an incredibly hard worker and always brings out the best of his co-workers and friends through his infectious personality— beloved by everyone he encounters.

Fred works as an operating manager at a CVS location here in Indianapolis— Fred has worked for CVS for the past 30 years!

Unfortunately, Fred’s life changed forever on Saturday July 27th, 2024. Fred was tending to his daily responsibilities at the store when he stumbled upon a homeless man attempting to steal liquor. Without provocation, the man stood up and punched Fred in the face.

As if that were not enough, the man then jumped on Fred, took him to the ground, and ruthlessly continued to punch him in the face. The man then stood up, took the liquor and left the store— he is yet to be apprehended, but IMPD is searching.

After collecting himself, and trying to brush off the altercation as simply an unfortunate event, he went to the hospital to get checked out. He expected that they would stitch him up, put on a cold compress, and send him on his way. However, the damage to his eye was far more extensive than he could have imagined. Fred was rushed into emergency surgery to try to save the vision in his left eye. Unfortunately, the surgery was unsuccessful— Fred has permanently lost all vision in his left eye.

There is not a clear path forward, but, whatever the path chosen, Fred faces continuous medical intervention to varying degrees for the foreseeable future.

Fred is as positive as ever, and is incessantly leaning on his faith. God’s plan, no matter how treacherous and “unfair”, has a purpose. Fred’s strength and indomitable positivity is admirable to say the least, and he needs our help.
