I started this GoFundMe for our rescue dog Finn, as we are currently working to save his leg. He is just a 6-month-old puppy.
Hello everyone,
Finn is just a 6-month-old Rottweiler/Lab mix who was rescued by Lucky Paws Animal Advocates, a non-profit organization. He spent his early months on the streets of Houston, Texas, struggling to survive alongside his momma.
After several months living in a foster home and getting healthy, he was adopted by a very kind single lady who embraced Finn’s nervous and skittish nature.
During his first puppy checkup at Urban Animal Clinic in Seattle, WA, the vets discovered an issue with one of his hind legs.
After conducting X-rays and an MRI, they diagnosed him with several Femoral Head Ostectomies.
This condition may be caused by something called aseptic necrosis, but the vets are still unable to fully determine if it is due to a fungal infection or an autoimmune disorder, as they typically see this illness in smaller dogs only. Given Finn’s challenging start in life, this diagnosis is sadly not surprising.
Either way, they have recommended a procedure called a femoral head and neck osteotomy (FHO), which involves removing the diseased portion of the bone and creating a fibrocartilaginous or false joint.
While this surgery won’t allow him to run marathons or hike long distances, it will significantly improve his quality of life, enabling him to live a happy puppy life and enjoy walks and shorter hikes. The most important thing is that he will not lose his leg.
While this has been an incredibly emotional week, Finn HAS begun showing improvements with the pain meds and the vets are optimistic that he will continue to show big improvements after the surgery.
As you can imagine, the costs associated with his treatment have been substantial.
If you feel moved to contribute, all funds for this GoFundMe will go directly towards his vet bills.
I am incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from all of you during this time. Thank you all for the love, prayers, and just all-around support you’ve shown me during all of this.
Finn is truly a wonderful companion, and he has made his adopter's life 20x better in countless ways. We will update everyone as we continue to do everything we can for this sweet boy.
Thank you for being there for us.
