Hi all,
As most of you know, I am a high school teacher in Brooklyn. I've have been working at FDR High School now for 20 years.
For the third consecutive year, I am co-hosting an event with a former student of mine, Mario Johnson, for Black History Month. Mario is the founder of the movement "More Music, Less Violence" and promotes this movement through community outreach and events.
As in previous years, Mario will be DJing our event. We will have a small panel of FDR alumni discussing their post-high school success stories and a Q & A session. A number of our students and staff will be showcasing their talents via dance, step, and spoken-word. We are looking forwards to seeing everyone's talents! And, of course, I am super proud of my former students and thrilled for them to have a moment to shine at their alma mater.
What do we need?! FOOD! This is a school event to bring us together and what better way than to break bread together? We don't need that much, but I want to be able to offer something to the kids after the performances, so they can hang out, eat, mingle, and vibe to some music. Most importantly, I want to make it accessible for all. Many schools events understandably have an entry fee and this fundraiser allows us to include everyone. Your donations prevent us from having to charge for the event.
Thank you all for being you! <3
