I am creating this fundraising effort to raise money for my wife, Errika Cain, in her medical journey to survival. It all started in January 2025, when she fell and shattered all 5 metatarsal bones in her right foot. It took a month for her healthcare team to realize it was broken. After the MRI revealed the extent of her injury, it was another month before she underwent surgery to repair the damage, including the installation of hardware. She already had peripheral neuropathy, which made it difficult for her to walk prior to her injury. The orthopedic surgeon put her in a hard cast and ordered no weight bearing on her injured foot. Already not being stable made it difficult for her to do anything except lay in bed. She began running a fever and was taken to the ER where she was admitted for a urinary tract infection that had gotten so bad that she was full-blown septic. Since then, she has been admitted 8 times to a total of three different hospitals, with several of those being in the critical care unit as well as the intensive care unit. Most recently, she was discharged from our local hospital on a Sunday afternoon and back in the ER and admitted to another hospital. If things were not bad enough, the intensive care unit staff at St. Francis Bon Secours in downtown Greenville lost her upper dentures. They claimed they were not responsible for “personal” property loss and offered to pay a “good will” payment of not more than $500 after they were provided a receipt that she had them replaced. The treatment plan for replacement is $2,197 and they require 60% up front with the balance due at pickup. They were lost on July 21st, 2025. Five days of calling and leaving messages for them went nowhere until we filed a complaint on the hospital's website. Another 10 days went by before they agreed to pay only $500. Since then, she has been admitted again and spent another week in the hospital. She is lacking nutrition and has been referred to a nutritionist. She is unable to eat any of her favorite foods. The hospital that had lost her teeth packed her belongings up, and when I picked her up, in her belongings was a very expensive medical device with all the accessories that went with it, along with the patient's name and room number on a post-it note. We contacted our local media station in hopes of getting help regarding her dentures replaced by the hospital as well as finding the owner of this medical equipment. FOX Carolina, based in Greenville, SC, is the one that was contacted and they are working on helping. Fast forward to now. Errika is in urgent need of a liver transplant. She is in need of her upper dentures to be able to eat and get the nutrition she needs. She is in need of an electric wheelchair, as well as equipping our vehicle to transport it. She is in need of certain medications and supplies that her insurance will not cover. The bills are piling up. I’ve been unable to work since January 2025 when this all started due to her needing 24-hour care. We have appointments for her at the minimum three times per week. The overwhelming need for financial assistance is unimaginable and hard to even put into words. I ask that you help in any way you can, even if it’s just a prayer, that helps too! She has a beautiful 8-year-old daughter that needs her mother!
Errika Cain is the heart and soul of our family—a loving wife, devoted mother to Jasmine, and someone whose kindness and humor light up every room she enters. At just 32 years old, Errika is facing the unimaginable: liver failure that has left her in urgent need of a transplant. Her journey has been filled with challenges, from being bedridden and wheelchair-bound to so much more.
