******Update 7/31/25*********
We received a message that the Tumor Board decided surgery was the best choice. We have a telemed scheduled Aug 7 with the surgeon. Hopefully, he will call before then because we are ready to get this surgery scheduled. Eric has an appt tomorrow with a new Oncologist for his Melanoma because we know he still has at least 1 in his right leg. Continued prayers for God to give his medical team the knowledge to make the best decisions for him! ❤️*****Update 7/24/25*******
Today we met with the GI Surgeon, labs, and a CT scan. We went in thinking we would discuss the scopes and plan for surgery and get it scheduled. That was not how it went. Eric has a rare form of Cholangiocarcinoma and genetic testing showed the cancer might respond to immunotherapy. The surgeon said he has never treated anyone like Eric before and he wasn’t confident in the first choice being surgery. New plan is for Eric’s case to go before a panel of experts on Tuesday that will discuss his history and best plan of action for treatment. The panel will consist of the surgeon, oncologist, someone who is an expert on immunotherapy, etc. Over the last 5 years, Eric has had multiple immunotherapy treatments and the last one left him sick for 6 months. Of course he is now scared of having to go through that again but the surgeon said if he has the surgery then he will also have chemo so either way he is going to be down for a little bit. Now we have to pray for God to give these experts the wisdom and knowledge to make the best decision in his case. We left very disappointed but we know God is in control and He is the ultimate Healer. Please keep Eric and his team of doctors in your prayers. Thank you!
***********Update 7/15/25*********
Praise Report-All biopsies from the EGD and Colonoscopy are negative! Thank the Lord for answered prayers! Next step is the Surgical Oncology consult scheduled for July 24. Thank you to everyone for your prayers, texts, calls, and kind words! ❤️*********UPDATE 7/4/25***********
Not much to update but here’s the latest. Vanderbilt Pathologists reviewed the biopsy slides from Memphis. They confirmed the liver cancer diagnosis and the primary site being somewhere in the GI tract. His consult on July 16 was with Dr Harper so I called and begged to be switched to Dr Compton so he has that consult on July 9. Eric still has no symptoms which is great because a healthy body can fight cancer better! Thank you to everyone for your kind words and prayers. Please keep the prayers going! ❤️
*********UPDATE 6/25/25**********
So many have asked for an update on the appt today. We met with Vanderbilt GI Oncology today. For now the plan is to get an EGD and Colonoscopy to try and determine where the cancer originated from. Vanderbilt is also requesting the biopsy slides so their pathologists can look at them. Apparently the pathology from Memphis did not give a definitive diagnosis on where the cancer came from. She did say the cancer came from glandular tissue and the origin would be hard to detect on a PET scan which is why the scopes are needed If the scopes are negative, he will go for a surgical oncology consult. If it’s not, the plan will change. We were really impressed with the Oncologist and decided to stay with her. He will also be referred to an Oncologist at Vanderbilt for his melanoma but that’s not a priority right now. We are so thankful and blessed by everyone’s prayers and donations and texts and calls. It really means everything to us. We thank God every day for our team!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hey friends!! My best friends husband has been battling with cancer! They have been married 10 yrs in Oct and have a 7 yr old little boy!! Any donations will go towards medical and regular bills and travel expenses. Here is a snippet of their story per Jennifer.... Most of you have been following Eric’s Cancer story but for those who haven’t, I will give a brief rundown. He was diagnosed with Melanoma in his right calf in 2020. He underwent multiple surgeries, immunotherapy, and lymphedema treatments. He was declared in remission in 2021. He was cancer free until Dec 2023 when the melanoma came back in his right upper leg. Again he had surgeries and immunotherapy. He had a bad reaction in Sept 2024, and he had to stop treatments. The melanoma has remained in the same spot in his right upper leg and has not grown. In January 2025, he had a CT scan that revealed a suspicious mass on the liver. Biopsy was positive for Focal Nodular Hyperplasia which is benign. The March PET scan showed the liver lesion highly suspicious for malignancy. Oncology recommended an MRI in May which revealed the same diagnosis. Last Thursday he underwent a repeat biopsy that was positive for poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of liver which is very aggressive. Tuesday we met with oncology who advised us to see a different oncologist that specializes in liver cancer. We prayed for guidance and that lead us to an appt on 6/25 with Vanderbilt. I also have sent everything to MD Anderson, cancer center in Texas. Our specific prayer requests are that God lead us to the Oncology team that He wants us at, God gives the team the knowledge to treat, and that God heals Eric's body from the cancer. With all that said, we will be facing major expenses from being off work and travel. We are so thankful for our support system and prayers! #FightWithEric #CancerSucks #CaryCrushesCancer
