My name is Erica and over the last year and a half, I have experienced a life altering medical injury. I had surgery July of last year and, during that surgery at some point, I suffered minor brain damage due to hypoxia, my central nervous system was affected as well leaving my left side weak. I also suffer from cognitive response delay and retro grade amnesia. I was in nursing school and had planned to start as a student nurse at a local hospital but due to my conditions, I had to withdraw from the program and the outlook for me becoming a nurse is grim. I have neuropathic pain throughout my body and am on medication. My family doctor has referred me to Cleveland Clinic to see specialists there but my insurance will not pay for it. This money would go to both my medical and travel expenses there. My family physician is doing all he can in his scope of practice to treat the various issues. I'm currently in vestibular therapy twice a week to relearn how to do simple things. This is a huge ask and would not even be asked if this wasn't the only way to get the answers I've sought for so long. I appreciate anything anyone does and promise to pay it forward.
