This is kind of long but here it goes…

Support for Eric and Michele During This Difficult Time

As many of you may know, Eric was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, in mid-July. This news was even more shocking considering Michele's battle with a brain tumor last year. Understandably, their family and friends are in disbelief.

Following the diagnosis, Eric and Michele consulted with two neurosurgeons, a neurologist, a chemotherapy oncologist, a radiation oncologist, a hospitalist, and his primary care physician (PCP). Unfortunately, all of them delivered the same devastating prognosis: this tumor is terminal. With standard treatment options, including chemotherapy and radiation, Eric was given a life expectancy of 6-12 months. However, if he qualifies for a highly specialized surgery, along with radiation and chemotherapy, his prognosis could improve, potentially giving him a better quality of life and extending his life expectancy to 18-24 months.

There are only three neurosurgeons in the state of Colorado capable of performing this complex surgery, and it can only be done by a single team at one hospital.Last Thursday, August 15th, Eric met with the specialist neurosurgeon. To their surprise, the surgeon expressed confidence that he could remove the entire tumor, along with some surrounding tissue, without impacting Eric’s comprehension, speech, memory, or vision. He also believes that radiation and chemotherapy can target and destroy the tumor’s deeply embedded “roots.” This news brought an unexpected glimmer of hope, as all previous consultations had offered little to none.

With faith, hope, and prayers, Eric and Michele believe this may be the miracle they’ve been longing for.

There is no doubt in their minds that they will pursue this treatment, but it comes with significant financial challenges. Even with insurance, the costs will be extraordinary. Additionally, Eric will be unable to work for at least six weeks during his recovery. Though he is determined to return to work afterward, the ongoing treatments will limit his ability to maintain full hours for another 6 weeks or more.

If you are able and willing to support Eric and Michele during this difficult time, your help would be deeply appreciated. Their loved ones are hoping to alleviate some of the financial anxiety and stress that this journey will undoubtedly bring. They would also ask for your thoughts and prayers to guide them through this difficult time.
