It is with the greatest of gratitude towards anyone who is able to donate towards a very deserving double amputee. That gratitude extends to those who will please share this GoFundMe page on their social media, even if they cannot donate towards this very deserving double amputee. Every dollar matters
Almost 4 months ago our brother Kris was in complete kidney failure and sepsis. He truly was afforded a miracle and will continue to work hard to embrace his second chance.
There are not many who can joke that they don’t have a leg to stand on or that they are falling short. He keeps making light of a very heavy struggle. He has amazed the many of us, family, and friends who love him deeply. We have all said how much we look up to his fortitude. He makes us laugh several times a day. But we can all still see the strain of huge worry and the pain behind his warm smile.
We are a family of great pride and each of us have consistently contributed to GoFundMe for others and also to various fundraisers. It is difficult for us to ask for help, but sadly it is crucially needed.
When Kris can become mobile, we have no doubt he will make many positive differences in several people’s lives. He is a giver. This miracle that we are forever grateful for saved his life, but unfortunately not his leg and he is now a double amputee.
It has been extremely expensive to try to equip Kris with what he needs because insurance, disgustingly falls very short.
While Kris will have a second prosthetic, it will take extensive time and practice to balance due to many factors.
For those who are unfamiliar with Kris, he is a warrior. He has been in extreme daily pain for years. He was diagnosed with spinal stenosis 11 years ago. A degenerative disc disease, which deformed each of his vertebrae, and caused him endless excruciating pain also caused him to stop running his own business. Kris had sunk 100% of his time and money into his self-employed dream .
The latest medical struggles have not only resulted in him becoming a double amputee, but also cost him his home. The house entrances do not have what is required for a safe entrance for Kris. No structure change can make that happen.
It was looked into and deemed impossible. He has had to move from a place which he loved and thought he would be for years to come.
He is now in a place that will require many changes to accommodate his needs. Thank goodness all inside doors are wide enough for his wheelchair, but the entry door to his private space is not. That will need to be changed out. A ramp with small decking is needed for him to gain access to the new exterior door once replaced
A very basic bathroom will need to be built to allow for him to shower safely. Plumbing is very costly as is taking down a wall, etc.
His monthly expenses have increased with a much higher rent and requirements to contribute to higher monthly house expenses, than his previous living situation. Financial worry alone can totally deplete anyone, but combined with figuring out movements forward with such medical devastation, is an overwhelm no one should have to endure.
Kris has needed help outside of what insurance has deemed available. One helper in particular has dropped weekly hours by 50% to be able to be there for Kris another has lost work pay as well.
Kris would like his GoFundMe to also help reimburse some of those lost hours and the few thousand it has cost for rented vehicles to transport him and set up new living arrangements thus far.
One of his greatest joys is to drive and that is going to be the biggest expense. We are looking at the most reasonably priced and safest equipped, handicapped drivable van. One that can accommodate an electric wheelchair . The van will need to be equipped with brake and accelerator on the steering column. A vehicle equipped to an electric ramp is needed so he can drive his wheelchair in and out of it. We have spent countless hours researching the best choices for him. This will be a huge game changer for Kris, but also for those who have been transporting him. He will not need them too. This independence will help heal Kris tremendously.
Expenses will be ongoing so there will be no chance of even a dime of your donations allocated to anything other than what is needed. We are forever grateful to anyone who shares this GoFundMe and/or contributes monetarily.
Kris being able to drive himself cannot prevent his emotional duress all together, but it can ensure far less mental anguish. Thank you!! God Bless!!
