Nancy is a dear and spectacular friend who has been diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. She has to undergo chemotherapy treatments, which will probably make her feel as bad as she does right now.

But one of the hardest parts of this situation is that she is an hour away from mediocre medical care and 6 hours away from much better care.

Her medical advisors and advocates have recommended that she get the best care possible. This means moving, temporarily, into a hotel, or short-term rental unit.

And while she has medical insurance and Medicare, those do NOT pay for the expense of living away from home.

When you couple that expense with the medical expenses that are NOT covered, and the deductible, it becomes impossible for her to receive the best care and treatments.

This is a person who has always been there for others. She has worked hard, raised children, and helped friends, family, and even strangers with situations that require the help of others. She has always done so with grace, composure, and quiet competence.

Of all the people I know, she is one of the top candidates for assistance from the rest of us.
