My daughter, who is a pre-med student at the University of Rochester, will be traveling to Japan this summer for a study abroad opportunity. This program offers her an immersive experience while still providing a summer of education and contributing to her proficiency in the language and culture. Pre-med is tough and taking Japanese courses has been something that balances out the stress.

As a single mom working 80+ hours a week, I'm doing my best to make her dreams come true, but as so often happens, I'm falling short. Asking for help is a difficult thing for me, as I want to be able to do everything for my kids. I have purchased her flight ($1,500) and other required elements of the trip ($1,200) and have saved every last penny I have, in addition to finding extra odd jobs in my spare time (i.e., when I should be sleeping) to make extra money for the equally important things like food! and the less important things like fun! and of course, trying to have enough for all the "just in case"s, but it's just not enough. I've seen how fast crowdsourcing builds up and I've also seen people have GoFundMes for way weirder stuff, so I'm hoping maybe to find some generosity in strangers and friends alike. :) We'd be forever grateful!
