Hello, my name is Jared Quinteros . On June 17, 2021, my wife and I were on a hike when a giant tree limb fell on us out of nowhere. On that day, I lost my best friend and my ability to walk. Since this accident, it has been a goal of mine to return to the trails my wife and I loved so much. As a paraplegic, this has been quite a difficult challenge as most trails are not what we would call “accessible.” That said, where there is a will, there is a way. I have found a hand cycle mountain bike that will allow me the freedom to achieve this goal. After spending the last 3.5 years feeling trapped in this body and in my home, I’m fighting back to have my freedom again. It will not only benefit me physically, allowing me to get the much-needed exercise to stay healthy, but also provide emotional and psychological gains in my life. Unfortunately, like anything else in the disability community, this bike does not come cheap, and after 2 years of trying to figure out how to make this happen for me, this is where I have landed, and I’m now asking for your help. The total cost of this bike, including a car carrier, comes in at $20k. I have applied for grants and have already got one from the High Fives Fund for $4k and am waiting to hear from the Kelly Brush Fund but will not find out till mid-November. Now I am faced with losing funding if I can’t get the bike ordered before the new year. My goal is to raise as much as I can to offset the extra $12k+ it may take to achieve this goal.
