Hi. I’m a disabled nonbinary queer person living in NOLA. I’m on SSDI and survive on about $900/month. With the current administration in charge and cuts to everything good, I’m terrified of losing my social security and insurance. I have been thinking a lot about things I could do. I can’t sit for long, I can’t work in an office, I can’t do physical labour and I can’t do something that would require me to work a traditional 9-5 job 40 hours a week. But what I think I could do is independent coding and billing from home. In order to do that, I need to get a degree in health information tech. I have exhausted the funds for student loans in the past before I became disabled. The grants are bled dry. I have no option but to ask for help.
I’ve been accepted to start the summer term at a local community college and I can attend online. But I can’t afford it. I need to pay tuition and books for the class. It will run about $3000 for the summer semester taking 9 hours and having books for the classes.
I set the goal at $3500 because I will need a little help making ends meet apart from school and because GFM takes a chunk out of what’s donated.
I know you have helped me before. I’m sorry to ask again. But I need a plan that doesn’t involve my having to move back in with my mother in a state that hates me for who I am. Even if I can’t do this full time, it would give me a little income that would reduce my need to ask for help so often. And that would mean the world to me. All funds will be used for school and surviving the process.
