Hello Animal Lover,

Would you like to help end feline kidney disease? Our Healthy Cat Project is working on this. What about protecting endangered wild bird populations from feral cats? We are doing this too, by rescuing and socializing feral cats in our FFURRR project. For this and more keep reading.

My name is Leslie Moran. I am the Executive Director of Emerald Ark. We are a innovative and unique animal welfare nonprofit located in Reno, Nevada. We use a food first approach by feeding the animals under our care human-grade balanced homemade foods and nutritional supplements. This improves behaviors and health though enhanced nutrition. even though we are in Reno our work has the ability to have far-reaching effects.

Our Mission Statement:
Driven by love, compassion, and a vision for a thriving
world, we rescue, heal, re-home animals, and provide sanctuary, while helping protect wild endangered birds, as we nurture a vibrant, sustainable organic farm, embracing holistic nutrition and heartfelt care at our core.

Our innovative way of combining holistic nutrition and care provides a quality of care giving that makes Emerald Ark unique among animal welfare organizations. Our innovation is further demonstrated as we collect scientific nutritional research data on our results.

We're raising start up funds to keep our current programs moving forward while we secure corporate sponsors and grants to help us acquire our new facility.

Our current programs include:
The Healthy Bird Project
FFURRR (Feral Feline Ultimate Rescue, Rehab & Re-home) Project
and
The Healthy Cat Project
Details on each program below.

The Healthy Bird Project

The Healthy Bird Project started the day parrots and finches joined Leslie's family. This was in 1997. As Leslie learned all she could from more experienced aviculturists she quickly discovered a fatal flaw in the way they feed these amazing, intelligent and sensitive feathered animals.

The most common advise that was given decades ago, and that is still given today is: to 'feed parrots a wide variety of foods'. Sadly, this is a recipe for avian malnutrition and unbalanced nutrition.

What the Healthy Bird Project does is keep detailed records on the balance of whole, real foods feed to the birds. And when a parrot or finch in the Healthy Bird Project dies the body is sent into our pathology lab at U.C. Davis for a necropsy (Animal autopsy). The results of these necropsies provide essential information for enriching our knowledge of avian nutrition for all the parrot species were care for here at Emerald Ark.

Your donations help us continue this vital work that supports the good health and well being of all parrot species.

FFURRR

Our Feral Feline Ultimate Rescue, Rehab & Re-home Project has a three fold mission. The first goal we accomplish is that as we bring feral cats indoors we teach them the joys of living as house cats. Being loved, well fed and cared for. It's wonderful to see how easily these cats adapt to being pampered and sunbathing in south-facing windows filled with cat beds.

The second goal we achieve is that each one of these cats that we bring indoors, after having a vet check and receiving a clean bill of health, is introduced to the high quality homemade cat food that we make from human-grade ingredients and that is the foundation of our Healthy Cat Project. This improved nutrition also helps these cats more easily adjust to the changes of living indoors and learning to trust and receive head scratches from people.

The third goal we achieve is that since these cats are now living indoors the wild bird populations in northern Nevada of threatened and endangered bird species are now safe from these consummate hunters. Numerous wild bird organizations worldwide, including Cornell Ornithology Lab, and Bird Life in England all agree that wild bird species are essential for the ecology of our entire planet.

The Healthy Cat Project

The Healthy Cat Project was created to utilize the abundance of published nutritional research available to formulate a food for cats made from human-grade whole, real foods, with the result of preventing feline kidney disease.

For those living in northern Nevada, the Reno/Sparks and rural areas, you can purchase this food from us at Emerald Ark. If you live in other parts of the country you can still support our work by buying this food. However, you must also pay for shipping the frozen food to you.

Leslie has been making homemade raw cat food for her cats for decades. And, sadly, even though this is thought by many to best the best food for cats. It is not. Raw homemade will not prevent feline kidney disease.

Please DONATE now to support this life supporting work for our feline family members.

Thank you for your support.
