️⚧️ My Journey to Top Surgery ️⚧️
I’m going to go ahead and start by saying I don’t love the idea of asking for help (for this specifically, but also in general…). With that said, I have received feedback throughout the last year and few months that people genuinely WANT to help/have made it a point to tell me to ask for it when the time gets nearer. Well, the time is now nearer…T-1.5 months until my life further changes for the better, because on May 14th 2025 acquiring gender-affirming top surgery morphs from dream to reality! ️⚧️
Let me forefront this post by saying: PLEASE by no means feel obligated or pressured to help me in this endeavor. Albeit every little bit counts and will be UNBELIEVABLY appreciated, I am all too aware that times are tough for a lot of people right now (both financially and free-time wise) and I’d hate for one to put my dreams above their own!
With all the above said, for those who DO want/are able to lend a helping hand: I’ve done my best to lay out exactly what would be greatly appreciated (both monetary and non-monetary resources/support), and also just what your monetary assistance, if you choose to go that route, would be going towards; that way you can better gauge whether or not I may be worth your investment
Non-monetary assistance that would be greatly appreciated:
- Volunteering to give Oakley some exercise/adventure time (a good friend of mine has already volunteered to take her in for my first week of recovery, and a nice retired lady up the street has been my saving grace during the days I can’t bring Oakley to work with me; with all this said, this exuberant girl is my baby and I would love as many hands on deck as possible to help take good care of her as I remain under a 6-week no-hands-above-head obligation)
- Signing up for phone calls / FT calls / in-person visits (to help keep me from getting too isolated/depressed/detached from reality during 6 weeks of recovery)
-Good book/podcast/puzzle/entertainment/education recommendations/donations (to help keep my brain sharp and busy)
- Grocery shopping for me (even if it’s just picking up an order I place online)
- Technologically helping me organize a calendar for all to see, where people can sign up for certain slots/categories of assistance
- Fresh/hot home-cooked meals, or even good recipes, as I’m going to try and do a bunch of meal prep healthy/easy heat-up options pre-surgery
- Donating any recovery items (this goes out to those in the community who may have had recent surgeries)
Kinship to monetary assistance (if you feel the green stuff is too boring of a donation) that would be greatly appreciated:
- opportunities for side work after recovery that can help me save up more/not fall too much behind financially (while also giving you something you may need! ️) (all before surgery slots are booked up!)
- Restaurant gift cards (Texas Roadhouse & Woodstar in Northampton are my favorites, but any within an hour drive of Cummington, MA are appreciated!)
- Grocery gift cards (I tend to shop at Stop & Shop, but again, any/all would be greatly appreciated)
- Amazon gift card
- Recovery items: puzzle books, maternity pillow, grabby tool, etc
If you care to donate the green gold:
What it would be going towards:
- assisting my paying my bills (rent, electric, propane, groceries, phone, Wi-Fi, truck, student loans, gas, etc) while off work for 6 (maybe up to 8) weeks - I’m currently working on doing what I can to get partial pay through PMFL (any helpful advice regarding advice on how to acquire this would be greatly appreciated)
- Meals during recovery
- Purchasing recovery items
- Possibly paying folks to help out with Oakley / chores around the house (as I won’t be able to raise arms above head for 6 weeks…)
- A couch/recliner (for initial need of up-right sleeping/recovery / a place for others to sit in my apartment )
- Funding a trip to the beach post-recovery!!!
How/where to donate if you wish to donate the green gold:
- GoFundMe website
- Venmo: @Elliot_B_Magnan
- Cash
- Check made out to legal name and sent to my address in Cummington, MA (legally changing my name is at the top of the docket in my recovery to do list )
- Quarters also welcome! (I’ll let you save your pennies and nickels though - that way you can remain a dime )
I’ll likely make some more posts as the date gets closer/surgery occurs so stay tuned if you so desire!
P.S. If you have the desire for me to spend a couple days/a week at your place during recovery (i.e. you want that quality time), now’s the time to capitalize on it! This goes for good friends, family in VT/other states (sorry Aunt Deb, unfortunately no out of country time is going to be feasible - FT/phone call/messaging time slots for you though!) this is the time to capitalize on it! First week of recovery has already been claimed
Not that I NEED to justify it, but in case you were curious what you’d be donating your time/hard-earned money towards, this is a list including exactly why getting top surgery is important to me:
- because I couldn’t think of a better way to start off my 28th trip around the sun (yes, I’m only turning 27, but apparently the year you’re turning is technically the year you just completed not the year you’re starting so…I know, it messed with me too!)
- Simply put: to further align my outsides with my insides
- Because I knew I wanted top surgery before I was certain of my desire to medically transition (walking around shirtless has ALWAYS been a deep-down GIANT desire of mine)
- so I no longer experience the dysphoria of how even the trans tape looks/“conceals” the adipose (*undesired/unaligning “breast”) tissue on my chest
- so I no longer have to hide my chest in photos
- So I can finally swim, walk outside, work, and simply BE fully shirtless without having to worry
- so I no longer have to choose between spending 45 min+ scrubbing my chest to get the trans tape off every 3-5 days (oftentimes irritating the skin/not even getting all the goo off), being in the continuous state of always having sticky goo on my chest (goo I sometimes even use googone to attempt to clean off), or experiencing the dysphoria/discomfort that accompanies wearing a sports bra/binder/disintegrated trans tape
- So I can finally be FULLY dry after a shower (and not have to wait 30+ minutes for my trans tape to dry)
- Because, despite being in a financially tight spot, this surgery is worth every penny/potential setback from other goals I have
- So I can be more at peace with myself and live this wonderful thing called life to the utmost fullest capacity ☀️
