Hi, my name is Ellie Morissette. Most of you know me as Squid.

I urgently need to move out of an unsafe living situation with my father. For over ten years I’ve been finishing my degree part-time while living with him, and while I’m grateful for the support he has given me, the environment has been toxic and abusive. This year, things reached a breaking point after his health declined in January. After his recovery from cardiac issues was mismanaged by a rehab center he developed what seems to be vascular dementia, has begun relying on me in unsustainable ways, has been refusing outside help, and the abuse has escalated significantly. Even his doctors are telling me to leave for my own safety.

Right now, every day at home is unbearable and unsafe. I’ve tried to manage by selling possessions and making plans, but my dad actively blocks or sabotages every attempt I make to move forward. I need to leave as soon as possible.

I will be relocating in December to live with one of my best friends in a place where I already have a support network. Once there, I’ll search for work in software engineering, but I need help covering moving costs and a financial runway for job hunting.

What I Need:

My total goal is $25,000, but I am contributing significantly by selling most of my belongings. Donations will help me reach these milestones:
