Hello all! My name is Richard Ruiz. I am putting together this GoFundMe account on behalf of a dear friend of mine, Tom Figueroa, whom I have had the pleasure of knowing for over 53 years.

He is a well-known upholsterer. Tom was also well-known for his cooking.

A few years ago, Tom was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had to undergo cancer treatments, which prevented him from working. After several months, he went into remission and was considered cancer-free. He decided to go back into his upholstery craft however, he could only work part-time due to the cancer treatments that caused a weakened metabolism. So here we are now, a few years later. One and a half months ago, Tom was stricken with the flu, for a few weeks and was not recovering from it so he went to the doctor to get checked out. Unfortunately he was diagnosed that the cancer has returned once again! The cancer has weakened his body, and he has no strength to attempt to go back to work.

Tom’s doctor visits, medications, and treatments have taken a toll on their savings. Aside from the cancer, Tom and his wife Ann are having difficulties making ends meet with all the doctor and medication bills!

The compassionate reason for establishing this GoFundMe account is to help Tom and Ann's life less stressful with medical treatments and finances.

Cancer has attacked 54% of American families. The majority of these families have gone through difficult financial hardships.
