On December 30th, our lives changed in an instant. Our Mom was in a car accident and life flighted to Harborview Medical Center. She has central cord syndrome which basically means her spinal cord was being compressed and she couldn’t move her extremities. She had surgery to decompress her spine, they did a laminectomy, placed a rod, and fused above and below the injury site.

The morning after surgery Mom failed the breathing trial so they took her down for imaging to make sure her spine was getting profused. All looked good from that standpoint— but unfortunately they found a PE in her lung and a subdural hematoma. This complicates things because the fix for the PE is blood thinners but it’s a tight walk with the brain bleed. They took her down for additional imaging and it turns out she has multiple blood clots in every branch of her lungs and the brain bleed is slightly larger. The neuro and spine team have determined to proceed with heparin for the blood clots and will keep watching her head closely.

The injuries to her spinal cord are pretty severe, leaving her unable to walk, or move her arms at this time— being fully dependent on others. She will be moved to intense inpatient rehab that specialize in spinal cord injuries at Harborview once cleared from an ICU standpoint.

With her and our Dad both unable to work— The hotel expenses, medical bills, etc. are already overwhelming and the road to recovery is going to be a long one.

We would like to start this Gofundme to help with housing expenses both in Sequim and Seattle, ferries, meals, medical bills etc. to ease the financial burden so Mom can solely focus on recovering.
