Hi, my name is Mark! Recently, my wife and I had a child prematurely at 27 weeks on August 28th, 2025. Our baby Maycie is still currently in the NICU in Indianapolis, which is 2.5 hours away from where we live. Maycie has bronco pulmonary dysplasia a lung disease due to her being preemie.
Every person has air sacs in their lungs. In a person with healthy lungs, they are inflated and able to easily get oxygen into those sac.
These sacs then give this oxygen to your blood and CO2 comes out. So essentially these air sacs are little exchange stations.
Maycies issue is that not all of them are inflated, in fact, some are collapsed and some are over inflated.
When she breathes in, instead of the oxygen being distributed to all the sacs evenly, the oxygen goes to the area of least resistance, which are the ones already inflated.
So then she ends up with some of those air sacs over inflated. This is where the PEEP pressure comes in to help keep the air sacs from collapsing.
My wife works from the hospital, but I have to travel back home for work and take off every Friday with FMLA, which is unpaid. This GoFundMe would help with gas, bills, and groceries during this time. Any help is appreciated very much. Thank you for reading!
