Hello everyone, I’ve decided to start this go fund me for my mom. As most of you know makayla has struggled since the age of 3 with chronic pancreatitis. In 2021 we learned makayla’s pancreas had shut down and was no longer functioning. then In 2022 she was diagnosed as a type one diabetic due to her pancreas no longer functioning. Makayla has struggled with pain among other medical complications all stemming from her issue with her pancreas for many yrs. She has missed out on so many life experiences as well as school having to do online classes due to her pain.

In april of 2023 makayla was excepted into a program for pediatric pancreatic care. After many test and visits with them, they’ve decided to preform a surgical procedure on her called a total pancreatectomy where they remove the entire pancreas and gallbladder from her body in hopes to give her a better quality of life. On monday June 9th makayla went in for this surgery. The surgery was suppose to be a 4 hr surgery and due to some complications it ended up being an almost 9 hr surgery. The surgeon explained the pancreas is a soft tissue organ however makayla’s was hard as a rock and it was difficult to remove. She was suppose to stay in the hospital for 4 to 7 days following the surgery for observation but she’s now been there 2 weeks due to other complications. The day after the surgery makayla began having allergic reactions to insulin. Her face would become very hot and swelled and she would break out in hives all over her face, chest and back. The doctors have been unable to explain that or correct it so she now has to take benadryl with every injection. Every time makayla would eat she would go into excruciating pain. They’ve tried liquid diets and low fat diets and nothing helps. she’s unable to eat without pain which causes her to choose not to eat at all ultimately losing a lot of weight and nutrients she needs. Then on friday makayla’s skin began to appear yellow. They bought it up to the doctor and the doctor ran labs and found out makayla’s liver function are all severely elevated. They preformed a ultrasound and MRI on the liver and was unable to find answers to why this is happening. The doctors believe she may have a blockage or there’s something restricting her bile duct. Tomorrow morning makayla has to have a second surgery to have a pic line placed in her heart for nutrients and she’s having a ERCP to go into her body and find the problem and place a stent into the bile duct to hopefully correct the problem. We don’t know when makayla will be released. They’ve already said it’s going to be at lease another week, but it could be longer depending on if this surgery helps.

My reason for starting this is for my mom. She does this all on her own. She’s been at the hospital beside makayla since the day she went in, never leaving not once. My mom has raised all us kids on her own and supports us on her own. The first week out of work was covered by her PTO time. As of this pass week she’s on leave without pay status. My mom is struggling to stay at the hospital. Just to pay for something to eat and drink for herself . She’s falling behind on her bills. Just struggling to live at this moment. She’s always been a hard worker and never one to ask for help even when she needs it. She thrives on being able to do everything on her own. But we all need help sometimes. My mom is stressed enough having to watch her child struggle than to have to also stress about losing everything she’s worked hard to get! She’s always been a very loving, caring and giving person helping anyone she can! If anyone can afford to do anything it would be very much appreciated!
