Our good friend, Katie, recently had one of my biggest fears as a cat owner come true: her sweet boy, Pippin, was diagnosed with a urinary blockage.
In true “cat” fashion, Pippin came down with this serious medical emergency on the evening of the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. Her vet, who she knows and trusts, was not able to have coverage for surgery until Tuesday. Katie had to hospitalize Pippin over the long weekend.
Pippin was able to be stabilized and had dramatically improved bloodwork after time in 24/7 care with fluids and a catheter, but still required surgery.
Hospitalizing a pet is always an unexpected cost, but the combination of a multi day hospital stay PLUS a surgery left Katie seriously in the red: she was only able to get this life saving care for her boy by getting Care Credit. She was faced with the heartbreaking choice of putting Pippin down as her only other option, but obviously chose to go into debt for her loyal companion.
Katie is an extremely hardworking person, often leaving for work in the wee hours of the morning, and putting in countless hours of work. She needs our community support in order to pay down this daunting sum.
She’s a person who truly loves animals— Pippin was a foster fail kitty. Like me, she bonded with a kitty who had medical difficulties after FHV left him with eye damage. She takes excellent loving care of her herd of kitties and her gentle giant dog, Drog.
If you are moved to help support this precious kitty and his kind and dedicated human, please give as you are comfortable and able. Katie is already working too much— if we help spread this burden, hopefully she can get to a place where it doesn’t feel so heavy. Those of us who have the good fortune to have some more than we need have an opportunity to make a big difference!
