My brother-in-law, Jarrod Pipher, was diagnosed with Stage 3A testicular cancer last year at the age of 47. The cancer has since spread to his abdominal area, adrenal gland, and kidney.
Anyone who knows Jarrod knows that he is a kind soul who always thinks of others first. He has proven himself in every endeavor he has set out to achieve. He has always been known as a solid worker, who does not rest until every job is complete. Jarrod is a terrific friend, son, and uncle, and he is the knot that ties the bond of love between him and his brothers.
Soon after his diagnosis, Jarrod began three rounds of chemotherapy. This decreased the tumors, but did not totally dissolve them. He then went through major surgery, RPLND, to remove some abdominal lymph nodes, and a tumor wrapped around one of his kidneys. This was a very invasive surgery, and, by the grace of God, and the skill of his excellent surgeons, he did not lose his kidney. We all prayed that this would lead to remission, but unfortunately, it did not.
This week Jarrod started inpatient high-dose chemotherapy at MD Anderson Houston that will be ongoing until October.
Besides the physical and emotional toll this has taken on Jarrod, unfortunately, he is also having to deal with the financial aspects as well. Jarrod lost his job in May, due to the closing of the retail shop that he has managed for over ten years. Now he is having to pay almost $700 per month towards Cobra in order to stay insured. Jarrod also has the responsibility of helping take care of his mother, Penny, who lives with him and depends on his income. She has been his main caretaker throughout this ordeal.
Besides his monthly Cobra payment, Jarrod also pays approximately $500 in co-pays per month, approximately $200 in lab-work costs per month, and $100 in parking and/or Uber fees for every hospital visit, which, with this therapy, is almost daily. Because of this extreme added pressure on his finances, I'm asking for help in relieving this part of Jarrod's burden. And we are also asking for prayers to cure him and give him the chance to enjoy his life cancer-free.
Your support will cover Jarrod's medical expenses, including the list above, and, if needed, any future treatments. We are so blessed to have the support of our many friends and family members, and, with your help, we can celebrate Jarrod's recovery together.
