For those who don’t know, our dad/stepdad was admitted tonight to Summit Medical due to an infection in his leg. We’ve been blessed to never have to make a post like this, but unfortunately, over the last few weeks, Gene has not been able to work very much at all and he holds two jobs. He’s a little bit of a workaholic, to be honest, so sitting in the house and being in bed or on the couch hasn’t been the easiest. He’s been to multiple clinics to be checked out, and they’ve given him multiple antibiotics and did some blood work. He had an ultrasound on his leg where they said he would most likely need surgery but needed a CT to further diagnose and assess his situation. He waited a week to hear if their insurance was going to approve it until a friend had him go to Summit in Hermitage. Right away, they did a CT scan which showed increased fluid/infection. His white blood count has continued to increase despite 2 different types of antibiotics. He will have surgery sometime tomorrow to remove fluid and a metal object that was left from the wreck over 30 years ago that they didn’t know about. They have already started him on IV antibiotics and some pain medicine to help give him some relief. We are hoping that tomorrow is a start to pain relief and recovery for him! But on the downside of all this, he has not had income coming in for either of his two jobs. He does have medical insurance, but they have a $15,000 deductible which they have not met by a long shot. Most of you who know Gene know that he is always there to help anyone in need, whether you ask or not. He’s made a lot of friends in his life, and I’m just hoping this reaches someone, friend or friend of a friend, anyone, who could help in any way, big or small, to help make this process of recovery a little easier on him and our mom.
Thank you for everything and please keep him in your prayers.
