Hi, my name is Haley and I’m reaching out and asking for help for someone who means so much to me, my closest friend, Felicia Dunn. Felicia has been recently diagnosed with endometrial adenocarcinoma-uterine cancer and it’s a new diagnosis that she’s only had a few weeks to process. In that couple of weeks, she has already racked up medical bills. As we know, bills and life don’t stop even when we are, by scary news like cancer. I think anyone can agree that the word cancer is scary enough, but when you have children you have to take care of and are a single mother, it becomes terrifying. Felicia works as a nurse and was given the opportunity to take a contract position that had the perk of a bit more money, but with that position, she was unable to be eligible for health insurance or benefits like paid time off. Cancer was never something she expected, especially with her age, so here came the diagnosis and she had no insurance and the bills started coming. She was finally able to obtain insurance, but we all know insurance helps but not as much as it should. She has a surgery upcoming (March 14th) that will require a minimum of 6 weeks off and that’s if there are no complications and things go the way they should and then the treatments she will have to receive. I’m looking for help just to help her get rid of some of this debt that’s already added up but to mostly cover her bills for the time she will have to take off work. She is solely responsible for all financial matters within her home and she is a single mother. Felicia has been one of my greatest friends for over 10 years and to know her is to love her. She loves hard and will do anything for those around her. Her humor and ability to bounce back after what seems like endless trials is outstanding, incredible even. She has been faced with many obstacles and even through them all, she stays strong and continues to help others and fights through whatever storm comes her way, but she is so worried about this battle and seeing her like that, my tough best friend, the one I call who will help me fix all my problems…afraid, it breaks my heart. I ask that anyone that finds it in their heart to donate to help her get through the only part of it we can help with, relieve some of that financial stress so she can focus on getting better and getting her babies through this tough time as well. Thank you all so much in advance!
A little backstory on Felicia:
Just a week before her 30th birthday, she got the shocking diagnosis that she has uterine cancer. Felicia had been struggling with some symptoms of blood loss for a while, but one particular day, she found herself unable to walk due to dizziness and fatigue. She was taken to the emergency room where she was admitted and had to receive units of blood. After she was discharged, she was referred to a physician who, after a biopsy, discovered the cancer and she now is referred to an oncologist who specializes in this. She is an LPN at Unity Health. She has worked there nearly 12 years and has been a nurse for 3 of those years, and before that, she was a CSA. She has made her career one that allows her to help those sick and needy, to care for the elderly and young, to be a helping hand to those that need it most. Felicia is a mother of 4. Yes, four! One may think holy moly, but there is something even more interesting and beautiful about that, and that is that all four are adopted! Felicia was called 7 years ago to take in 2 children who were not in the greatest situation, who had been neglected and abused, and without a blink of an eye or second thought, she became their mother. Not too long after, 2 more children were born and were siblings of her children, and again without blinking, those 2 babies needed a mother and a home, and she adopted them as well and became just that to them! Two of the four children have special needs, cerebral palsy, in which Felicia has helped and worked with them and they flourished from the love and understanding they deserved! Felicia went from a single woman, no plans of children in her near future, to a mother of 4 in a flash!
