Help Ease the Burden of Cancer & Care for Earl

Hi, my name is Hope Taylor, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my uncle, Earl Wood — a man who has always worked hard, helped others without hesitation, and never asked for a thing in return. Now, after a long and devastating series of health challenges, he and his wife are facing overwhelming physical, emotional, and financial burdens — and they truly need our help.

Earl has never been one to go to the doctor. He’s the kind of man who toughs things out, stays humble, and gives generously. When I was 21 and my car’s transmission went out, Uncle Earl loaned me his own vehicle and repaired mine without ever asking for anything in return. That’s just who he is.

Now, it’s our turn to be there for him.

What He’s Facing

Over the past year, Earl’s world has been turned upside down by a chain of serious health issues:

• Diagnosed with urological cancer

• Underwent major cancer surgery in February 2024

• Began radiation and chemotherapy in March

• Suffered a massive heart attack, followed by double bypass surgery in April

• Developed radiation-induced nerve damage causing foot drop, muscle loss, and intense, burning pain in his leg

• Pain and weakness are now spreading to his right leg and foot

• Struggling with diverticulitis, intestinal blockages, urethral narrowing, and chronic constipation

• Hospitalized in April with sepsis and a blood pressure drop to 54/35

• Constant pain makes it hard to eat, sleep, or stand- if you look at the photos you can see anytime he has to ride in the car he gathers up a lot of pillows to sit on due to his pain. The photo with me and his wife was 3 years ago, you can see the toll these medical issues have taken on his body. He has lost a lot of weight and is underweight due to these issues.

He’s been to multiple specialists and hospitals — many of whom dismissed or minimized his pain until real damage had already set in. His condition continues to worsen, but he continues to fight every single day.

Transportation & Financial Strain

On top of everything else, Earl and his wife are now struggling to even get to his medical care.

They had three vehicles:

• One has been broken down for months

• Their only working car broke down this week — the transmission went out while his wife was returning to the hospital

• They do still have a truck, but it is not dependable enough for the frequent 90-minute round trips between Soso and Hattiesburg

They’re now juggling multiple major health concerns without reliable transportation, and the medical bills, prescriptions, and fuel costs have already drained their finances.
