Donate to Ease Bob Sumski's Cancer Journey

On July 28, 2023, Bob Sumski was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. In August 2023, he began his first cycle of chemotherapy, but immediately required urgent surgery to remove the growing tumor. He has undergone over 20 cycles of chemotherapy and other drug therapies. Scans from this year have shown that his disease has progressed from his abdomen to his chest. He has also been hospitalized multiple times for infection, low hemoglobin, and kidney stones.

He has been receiving treatment at MUSC in Charleston, 2 hours from home. With his declining health and traveling back and forth for treatments, he and Joanne have been unable to work and are only receiving minimum financial assistance. As you can imagine, this has put them in financial hardship and bills have piled up. Bob has even forced himself to work handyman jobs to make money in between treatments, although he has no business doing that type of work anymore.

Bob and Joanne have always gone above and beyond for their friends and family over the years. As such, their friends Carol Poore and Ron Koris have asked that I put together this page. Bob was heavily involved in the Big Brother program, volunteered for the Special Olympics, donated his time for charity construction projects, and worked very hard to give back to his communities. Most notably, Bob coached both of his kids in soccer for over 17 years, where he earned his most honored title of “Coach Bob.” He impacted many lives and provided a safe space for kids to learn, grow, and make everlasting friendships. They have made a lot of friends along the way and continue to touch lives. Now it is our turn to touch theirs.

Any donations will help lighten the load and stress they feel every day. Things have been extremely difficult and more difficult than they lead on. Some financial relief will allow them to focus on the most important things: Bob's health, treatment, and spending time with family. Funds collected will go directly to paying bills, buying groceries, and travel for medical treatments. Thank you for taking the time to read and your consideration in donating to this fight. We understand some are unable to contribute financially, but by sharing this page, you will still be playing a valuable role in this fundraising effort.
