Help Doug Fight Stage 3 Rectal Cancer

We’re reaching out today to ask for support for our big brother, Doug, as he begins one of the toughest battles of his life. Doug was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 invasive rectal cancer (T3N2b M0), which has already spread to seven or more lymph nodes.

His treatment plan is aggressive—8 weeks of neoadjuvant therapy, chemotherapy, radiation, oral chemo, and infusion treatments—all with the goal of shrinking the tumor before surgery. On top of that, Doug is also managing diabetes, making this journey even more physically and financially overwhelming.

All funds raised will go directly to Doug to help with the mounting expenses that come with a diagnosis like this: medical bills, loss of income, treatment supplies, and after-care needs.

Doug lives in Mt. Plymouth, FL, with his son, Cory. His support system at home is small, especially after the heartbreaking loss of his wife, Charlotte, in 2019. Despite life’s challenges, Doug has always been someone who gives back. He spent years devoted to the Boy Scouts, from childhood through adulthood, investing countless hours into mentoring and leading young Scouts in his local Florida Council. His dedication to service has impacted so many lives.

Now he’s the one who needs a community behind him.

As siblings living in Iowa, we’re doing everything we can from afar. We hope to reach everyone who knows Doug—family, friends, coworkers, and his Scouting family—to surround him with strength, love, and support during this difficult time.
