Donate to Donovan's funeral and family costs

On the evening of Tuesday, September 12, Donovan and one of his neighbors were attacked in his apartment building. He was transported to the hospital later that night, and after two days of intensive surgery and care, succumbed to his injuries and passed the morning of Friday, September 15, surrounded by his family.

For those of us who knew and loved Donovan, his community spanned across the country, and he deeply loved growing roots in Chicago over the past few years. Known to some as his musical alias Don Crescendo, to others as a unforgettably brilliant friend, to his family as a caring oldest son, and to everyone as a loving, generous, and laughter-inspiring person, Donovan left an indelible impression on everyone he met.

In this time of shock and grief, we want to do everything we can to support his family through this unimaginable pain. This GoFundMe is supported by his mother and siblings, and all funds raised will go directly to their family to cover costs related to transporting his body back home to South Carolina, moving his belongings, funeral costs, and family travel. We are asking for this starting amount of $35,000 to cover these services, and will keep the community updated if any additional needs arise.

As his best friends and biggest fans, we want to relieve any undue burdens on Donovan's mom and family during this terrible time, and hope that the communities that Donovan loved and was an integral part of can show up for him one final time.

We will add details about the funeral service in South Carolina and ideas for a celebration of life event in Chicago as details become available.
