Hi, my name is Vickie Schneder. I created this account for my son Dane to help with expensive medical bills, multiple ER visits, and anything he may need to help with recovery.

He had been in ICU since Sept. 16th. On Sept. 12th, he went to a Minute Clinic and was diagnosed with bronchitis. He was started on steroids and antibiotics. On Sept. 14th, he came to celebrate his son’s 16th birthday, even though he still felt horrible. He went home and went to bed. Later that night, he woke up with horrible pain in his neck, back, and shoulders. He got up and went to the ER. There, he was diagnosed with pinched nerves. They gave him a shot of Dilaudid and he took an Uber home.

At 10:30 am, he called me and told me something was wrong; he couldn’t lift his arms. By the time I got to his home, he had lost all movement in his arms. His legs were getting weaker by the minute. When we arrived at Middletown Kettering ER, he had no use of his legs. The ER was busy and couldn’t get us in for over an hour.

By this time, he was telling me something was stuck in his throat. When we got to a room, they put him on oxygen first, then a C-pap. His symptoms had not changed since we arrived, so they decided to release him. I went to get the car. I sat in the car and wondered why they hadn’t brought him out. I went in and was met by the doctor telling me that he had a seizure and went unresponsive, and they were sending him to Kettering Main. When he arrived there, they immediately put him on a vent. After days of medical testing and procedures, they placed him on a tracheostomy and a feeding tube.

After 14 days in ICU, the doctors told me that they had done everything they could do and it was time to put him in a long-term care facility.

The next day, he started squeezing my hand and moving his extremities a little. His progress is slow, but instead of long-term care, he will be receiving PT to learn to walk and talk again in the long term care facility.
I believe he will recover but it could be 3, 9 months or longer. I want to thank everyone for their prays that has gotten him this far.
The doctors are not sure what is wrong but signs point to Guillan-Barre’ syndrome.

Any amount would be appreciated.
