Our family is embarking on a profound journey. We invite you to be a part of this life changing experience as we share the story of two incredible individuals.
It is not an easy ask for us to be vulnerable in a time of need, but in times of stress it is best to lean on others for support. Over the past 4 years our dad has had unforeseen challenges following getting Covid pneumonia which sparked other complications with his health. In early 2023 he was diagnosed with Human Metapneumovirus. These complications have caused his kidney function to decrease rapidly, ultimately sending dad into kidney failure and having him rely on dialysis 3 times a week. In the process of testing for a transplant one of the tests showed blockages in his heart. This prompted an unexpected planned surgery. This past January, dad had open heart surgery to correct the blockages that would prepare him if the opportunity arose that a donor was available for a transplant. After 6 months of recuperating and cardiac rehab he returned to work. On July 17th 2025, Dad received a letter informing him that he was approved for a transplant!
Let us tell you more about our “Pops”. Our dad has been a life long resident of Taylor, MI. He graduated from Taylor City High School in 1979, where he met our mom, Sherry. They started their journey in 1981 while our dad was in the United States Air Force. While stationed at Wurtsmith A.F.B. They had two children. After serving 4 years they returned home to Taylor, had their 3rd child and many years later they welcomed 11 grandchildren. Pops quickly volunteered his time coaching youth sports. As us children grew older Pops continued coaching and volunteering his time.
In the middle of September of 2025 we received the wonderful news that our dad had an approved donor, our cousin Christine!! AN EXTRAORDINARY BEAUTIFUL ACT OF LOVE AND COURAGE that Christine is taking to help her uncle Dan. Her selflessness and bravery embodies the true meaning of family and sacrifice. This is nothing new for Christine as she has always been giving and selfless. She has been a lifelong animal activist dedicating and volunteering her time. She also lives a lifestyle as a Vegan. She is an amazing sister, aunt and friend. Christine will do anything to help anyone in need.
Our dad and cousin Christine are inspiring members of our community, their unwavering spirit and positive attitude have touched countless lives. The upcoming transplant brings hope yet it comes with significant financial burdens, medical expenses, post surgery care and time both Dad and Christine will need to take off work. We are reaching out to you in our community of family, friends and kind hearted strangers to ask for support of your generous donations that will help cover expenses and allow our family to focus on what truly matters of healing and supporting each other through this journey. Every little bit helps and we are deeply grateful for any support you can provide whether it's a donation or simply sharing this go-fund-me with your network. Your kindness will make a world of differences to our family.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, prayers, support and generosity. We are eternally grateful for each and everyone who stands with us in this journey with love and gratitude. On November 25th the transplant will take place. Please keep our dad Dan and cousin Christine in your thoughts and prayers.
