Hi, I'm Jett (they/them), an agender non-binary haircutting specialist based in Boston, MA. I have been in the industry over 20 years, and specialize in natural hair and gender affirming care for all. I am raising funds to be able to provide no-cost haircuts to BIPOC Queer Trans folks for the giving season.

In the past, I have had pay-what-you-can days at work for BIPOC QT folks. Unfortunately, because of the rising costs of existing in late stage capitalism, it was not sustainable for me to continue to provide this option. I have been brainstorming as to how I could continue to show up for my community while not putting myself into a place of financial instability, and was inspired by @thebest1period's business model he follows to provide haircuts for neurodivergent community members.

As genderqueer people, it can be extremely anxiety inducing and scary to go into a salon and ask for an affirming haircut. Many stylists do not know how to navigate these services safely, and in turn clients do not have a good experience. It is imperative to provide a safe space for expression within the salon, and to collaborate with clients based on their needs.

As a multi-racial trans person myself, I have experienced this first-hand. I often have been talked into or given a more feminine haircut, when I prefer to be somewhere in-between. My hope for this fundraiser is to raise enough funding to provide 1 1HR haircut for a BIPOC Trans Community Member each day I work at no cost to them. If I end up raising additional funds, I will take on more no cost clients. Think of this as your way to give back to the community, and show trans people how treasured they are when the world is telling them they aren't. I am taking a reduced rate for this service ($180 instead of $200/Hr for cuts), and will not be accepting gratuity from these clients.

My goal is to raise $1800, which would provide 10 people with a no cost hair service. Your donation will also support a multi-racial trans person. BIPOC folks will be centered with this service, and non-BIPOC folks will be able to benefit from this if there are no other BIPOC clients waiting for this service. I will choose the clients based on a first-come, first-serve basis through an application process. Thank you for continuing to support the queer community with your donation.
