Crystal has finally completed her chemotherapy treatment and has been recovering well. She is now gearing up for the next big steps. On Friday of this week, December 13th, she will have a unilateral mastectomy. She will then undergo reconstructive surgery over time to restore her breast. This means more trips to UNC for multiple treatments. Also, she will continue infusions of Keytruda to continue immunotherapy to safeguard her health. She has had a number of scans to help determine the consequences of her treatments so far.

With the new year coming Crystal will have to meet her deductible again in 2025. Also, another update is that Crystal and her husband have discovered a cheaper and more reasonable way to restore the issues with their home. However, they still need to raise some more money to help pay for the repairs to prevent further moisture issues in their house. Please help us to continue to collect GoFundMe donations to help Crystal and her family have these repairs completed for the sake of their health and safety. Thank you so much for sharing this with others who may be willing to donate.

My name is Vicky and I'm creating this GoFundMe opportunity for my friend/co-worker/comrade Crystal Sanders. Crystal was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer earlier this year and she has endured over half of her 20 chemotherapy treatments. Several treatments did not go well and as a result, she must give herself injections midway through each week to help ensure her immunity is strong enough to endure the next treatment and to hopefully avoid delayed treatments. She has a long journey to face as she still has to face at least 8 more rounds of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy down the road.

Working with Crystal each day, I see on a weekly basis the routine cycle of her preparing and completing a 4-hour lecture on Monday, having chemotherapy on Tuesday, and then several days later experiencing the ravages of chemotherapy on the body and mind.

If you don't know, triple-negative breast cancer is a very difficult type of breast cancer to treat. It is so important that Crystal continues her treatments on a weekly basis so she can continue to use all the weapons available to her in this battle. UNC is providing her with the medical tools that she needs. Her family and friends are providing the support, love, and care that she needs. Her sweet and gentle spirit and her faith in God are giving her the fuel she needs to continue the fight. However, her medical bills are continuing to build. Along her journey, she has encountered the need to visit other doctors to manage other health issues that have arisen along the way.

Her eldest son, Kennison, just left the nest to join the Navy. She also has two younger children who need her attention and care, Gabe and Harper. Her husband Terry has been supporting her as a strong foundation for this rough journey they are both experiencing. However, the bills continue to come: copays for doctor's visits, medications, parking fees, gasoline costs to and from Chapel Hill, just to name a few. Imagine paying to meet deductibles for 2024, knowing that you will immediately encounter having to pay deductibles again in 2025 due to surgery and radiation treatments scheduled next year. The expenses continue to build.

Lastly, a goal that Crystal and her husband Terry had for this year was to repair the foundation of their house due to ongoing foundation settling issues. Their house has also been encountering moisture issues in the crawlspace and encapsulation was recommended to prevent health issues in the house. Crystal has been using moisture absorption bags throughout her house to control the dampness and to also hopefully reduce the moldy smell the moisture creates. However, the smell just doesn't go away. She and her family do not feel safe in this environment but do not have the means to make their situation better at this time. Crystal and Terry gathered 3 quotes to repair these issues which include lifting the house, repairing the foundation, adding a french drain, removal of mold, and encapsulation of the crawlspace. Each quote was around $20,000. It would be great to raise even more money through this GoFundMe to help offset the financial burdens Crystal's family is experiencing. Please help us go well and above and our goal!!

Here's what they are dealing with under their house. There's standing water. You can see how high the water gets if you look at the cinder blocks in the background. The sump pump is in a bucket in the ground but the water has to be really high for water to flow into the bucket and get vacuumed out by the pump. This current system never drains all the water out. Crystal attempted to seek help from the VA due to the house passing inspection, when it should not have. However, her efforts did not help.

Please consider donating to this very special family. Friends have been encouraging Crystal to create a GoFundMe account to help in this tough situation; however, she's just too humble to do this on her own. All of us who work with her would love to see her family reduce their stress over house issues, financial issues, and especially, health issues. Donations would alleviate the stresses of paying copays, meeting deductibles, paying for gas and wear and tear on Crystal's car, and arranging meals on evenings that she is not feeling well. Hopefully, enough money will be raised to also complete the work on their house to make it a safer place to live.

Thank you so much for visiting Crystal's page and please consider contributing to this very special situation to help her and her family thrive through this very difficult time in their lives.
