Hi, my name is Zach Smith, and for nearly a decade, I’ve been teaching music and producing records right here in our local San Diego community. What started as one-on-one lessons in a small studio has blossomed into a deeply fulfilling journey—nurturing young musicians, collaborating with local artists, and watching lives transform through the power of music.
Now, is the time to take the next step.
I’m raising money to open a commercial recording studio and music school; a space built with intention, creativity, and community at its heart. This will be more than just a studio. It will be a hub for local artists, students, educators, and other community organizers; a place where San Diego’s creative community can grow, share, and thrive.
Why Now?
Over the years, I've built strong relationships with my students, their families, and fellow musicians. I’ve poured my heart into teaching and music production from completely separate environments. The next step is providing the art I dream of creating and guiding others toward creating art they dream of creating all from one central location.
This new space will allow me to:
* Continue teaching and expanding lesson opportunities for students of all ages
* Produce high-quality music and other art in a professional, safe, & inspiring environment
* Host community-centered events, workshops, and performances.
* Create a safe & welcoming space for musicians to collaborate, record, and grow.
* Attract more artists to San Diego, thanks to a high-caliber creative and comfortable environment.
But I can’t do this alone.
--Where the Money Will Go:
Your support will directly fund:
* Studio construction & professional sound treatment
* High-quality recording equipment & instruments
* Licensing, insurance, and initial operating costs
* Covering rent for my existing teaching studio in La Jolla during the transition
* Building a scholarship fund for students and musicians who would benefit from assistance with lessons and/or recording.
Without this support, I may have to give up my current teaching studio before the new space is ready—something I deeply hope to avoid as this would set back this entire dream a great deal.
This isn’t just about me—this is about us. Our community. Our students. Our artists. I envision a space where music isn’t a luxury—it’s accessible, vital, and woven into the fabric of San Diego life. I've spent years building my particular set of skills and it just feels like it's time to use them in a bigger way that benefits our community for years to come.
If music has ever moved you, healed you, or connected you with someone else—you already understand the power of this mission.
** Any donation, large or small, makes a difference. **
If you’re unable to give right now, sharing this campaign with friends and family is incredibly helpful.
From the bottom of my heart— thank you for believing in this dream and helping build something truly special. Community can't evolve without community.
With gratitude and music,
Zach Smith
