UPDATE 10/24/24

Since Codie's surgery on August 8, 2024, we are fast approaching the three-month milestone. Following the surgery, Codie has been transitioning to outpatient care and readjusting to her daily life at home. She sees her Liver Specialist Team twice a week and is currently managing a regimen of 12 medications administered twice daily. To break it down, that's 24 pills in 24 hours. Each have their own horrible side effects that cause headache, dizziness, nausea, and extreme fatigue. Adapting to these medications has posed a new array of challenges.

Codie has recently transitioned to AdventHealth Porter Hospital under the care of her Liver Team and is acclimating to the new hospital.

Within the last three months, Codie has experienced common complications following her liver transplant, including issues with her bile duct that required the placement of a stent to facilitate proper flow and function of her new liver. She is scheduled for another endoscopy on October 28th to either remove or replace the current stent. This is a common procedure that we've been told can be done as many times needed.

While we reach this 3 month period I can't help but get emotional thinking back on Codie's first days after getting rushed to the ICU with kidney and liver failure. The doctor telling us that without a new liver, she'd only live 3 months. The outcome could've been so much different. I continue to thank God, the life saving Liver Team at St Lukes, and of course the donor that saved Codie's life without ever knowing her. My family has put Codie's health as our main priority. My father and I are back and forth from Louisiana to Denver every month, visiting as much as we can, while my mother remains in Denver to care for Codie. We always ask for prayers for Codie’s husband CJ who is now back at work full time. Please pray for focus and peace while he adjust back into work life. The emotional rollercoaster we have been riding has left us exhausted but resilient, with a newfound appreciation for the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. We thank each and everyone of you for taking the time to donate, pray, and send caring words. You are all greatly appreciated and my family will forever be grateful to you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
My big sister Codie has recently been diagnosed with Hepatorenal Syndrome (HRS) and is currently hospitalized at Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center. HRS is a serious complication of advanced liver disease, where the kidneys are unable to function properly due to the liver's inability to remove toxins from the blood. As a result, it can lead to kidney failure and require intensive medical intervention. In Codie’s case, the liver is failing and she is currently on dialysis in attempt to save her kidneys. Codie is on the Liver Transplant list but must stay hospitalized until a suitable liver donor becomes available for transplantation. During this time, she will undergo various treatments including dialysis 3 times a week to stabilize her condition and prepare her for surgery. It is a challenging and uncertain time for our family, but we are optimistic about her prospects for recovery with proper medical attention and support. A liver transplant is a life-saving operation that comes with significant financial burdens, including medical bills, post-operative care costs, and potential loss of income during the recovery period.

My sister has always lived her life with gusto, accomplishing anything she ever set her mind too. She strives and prides herself on her accomplishments. She is truly an unstoppable force. Her perseverance is a testament to the indomitable spirit that resides within her, a force that cannot be extinguished no matter the circumstance. In the face of these impossible odds, Codie's unwavering perseverance stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration for all who witness her incredible strength and resilience. Even on hard days she still remains her optimistic self, more concerned for others needs. My sister is a fighter, and with love and support from friends and family I know she will be a survivor.

Codie graduated from the University of Wyoming where she was a proud Kappa Kappa Gamma and president of her sorority in 2010.

After graduating with a degree in psychology she soon found her passion working with infants and adolescents with special needs. For 8 years she’s dedicated herself to countless families and children in Denver, making sure they had all the tools they needed to live long and productive lives.

Codie's marriage to CJ in Paris this past October marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives, as they purchased their first home and were excited to start a family. This unexpected turn of events has undoubtedly brought challenges and uncertainties into their young lives, but their unwavering hope serves as a source of motivation for their future.

My family humbly asks for your help. Your contribution will have a meaningful impact on Codie’s ability to persevere through this critical time and emerge stronger on the other side. We are raising funds for a multitude of critical needs including transportation, housing costs, therapies, and assistance with income that is essential for the well-being and progression of Codie’s health. These funds will bridge the gap between financial limitations and necessary resources, ensuring access to specialized medical treatments. We thank you for any contribution, your prayers, and thoughts.
