Hi, my name is Claire! I’m a trans woman who has been living in New York City for the past two years, piecing together a living as a welder, carpenter, bartender, caterer, and babysitter. I do not have the security of steady employment because much of my work is freelance.
After years of navigating red tape and difficulty accessing care, I finally have facial feminization surgery (FFS) scheduled for October 2025. This is a life-changing step for me. I’ve struggled with dysphoria for as long as I can remember, and it often leads to severe social anxiety that makes everyday life incredibly difficult. Surgery will bring me closer to myself, ease that pain, and allow me to move through the world with more peace and confidence.
It hasn’t been an easy road. My network of friends and family is not wealthy. I’ve been working in shops and worksites with dangerous conditions and disrespectful bosses, faced constant job insecurity, and relied on underground and gig work to survive. Right now, I’m doing everything I can just to keep a roof over my head.
This money will go towards the many expenses that insurance will not cover. These include a caregiver around the clock for one week, medical equipment and prescriptions, and rent and food during recovery, when I’ll be unable to work. I am asking for $10,000 to support me during my recovery.
Every dollar, every share, and every bit of support means the world to me. Thank you for helping me navigate this moment and into a future where I can finally leave the house comfortably.
