My name is Cindy Herring (Jenkins), and I have been a member of the Bryan/College Station community since 1983. You may know me from my volunteer work with Bryan ISD at Navarro Elementary School, my many years of service to the Boy scouts of America, or as an advisor for Alpha Phi Omega at Texas A&M University. Over the past 15 months, I have been battling Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, a rare cancer that begins in the salivary glands and can spread or return even years later. In August 2024, I underwent surgery to remove two tumors and my minor salivary gland. Unfortunately, the cancer remained. By February 2025, I began treatment at MD Anderson in Houston, and this past May I had a second surgery to remove residual cancer and my major salivary gland. Radiation followed in The Woodlands. Healing has been difficult, and I recently faced another hospital stay due to an infection and significant lymphedema in my neck. The physical, mental, and emotional aspect has been difficult. When Kaitlyn Rathjen first approached me in September of 2024 about doing a Go Fund me, while grateful, I wanted to try and handle things on my own. However, I didn’t expect this to be such a long journey. I also didn’t expect the financial burden to be what it has now become. So, it is now that I am asking for help with the cost associated with my cancer. Such as the medical expenses that I’ve had to cover, the travel expenses, the monthly reoccurring bills & personal essentials needed while I have been unable to work. All of these things have been overwhelming and depressing. I am aware of how hard times are right now for everyone. So, this is a very difficult ask. If you have the ability to help, I am truly grateful. If not, that’s ok, too. Maybe you can share this. Please keep me and my boys in your thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely, Cindy
Ms. Cindy is a true gem of a person. She would give you the shirt off her back if you asked. She is always going out of her way to help others, & now it is our turn to help her. She is in need of support & I know that the Bryan/College Station community can come through for her. So I am starting this Go Fund Me on her behalf. -Kaitlyn Rathjen
