Hi, my name is Karen Ford, and I truly appreciate you taking the time to read my story. My family and I have been blindsided by the recent news of my fiance, Chris Williams, being diagnosed with Tonsil Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC). Squamous cell carcinoma, commonly known as throat cancer or tonsil cancer, is a type of head and neck cancer that refers to the cancer of the base and posterior one-third of the tongue, the tonsils, the soft palate, and posterior and lateral pharyngeal walls. More than 90% of oropharyngeal cancers are squamous cell cancers, which are the cell lining of the oropharynx.
In addition to the direct invasion of the tissues, oropharyngeal cancer can spread through blood and lymphatics. Diagnosis is made based on biopsy results of the affected tissue. Treatment involves surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of these therapies. Chris will start radiation and chemotherapy in the next few weeks.
The treatments will last for 7-8 weeks, which Chris will have radiation every day and chemo once a week. He just started a new job a few months ago, so he will have to take a leave of absence, and he does not have health insurance. I am starting this fundraiser to help pay the medical bills and his personal bills. I want to give you a back story about Chris and what a wonderful man, father, friend, brother, and partner he is. I met him when we were thirteen years old and I saw him grow into a loving and kind man. Over the years we went our separate ways but ran into one another nine years ago and have been together ever since. I have three children and he has two children of his own. We have meshed into a wonderful extended family. I feel honored to be loved by him and I want only the best for him and his future. With positivity and love, I feel that we will beat this cancer and live a long, happy life together.
Thank you for reading my story and helping Chris.
