Chris Schmeiser's Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
On Friday, 5/13, Chris suffered a stroke due to a blood clot in his brain. He went into surgery shortly after and the clot was removed. He had been struggling with pneumonia the month prior and doctors have been running tests on his heart and lungs to pinpoint the source of the clots. The stroke left his left side partially paralyzed, and he is currently at Torrance Memorial Hospital recovering.

The doctors say his heart is only functioning at 25% fractional output. We are believing for his heart to recover with time. If it doesn’t, doctors have been discussing possible transplant options. In order to fully engage in physical rehabilitation for the paralysis, he needs to have the energy to endure the longer PT sessions in the coming weeks and his heart is the limiting factor right now.

Since Friday, 5/13, Chris has been transferred from the ICU to the PCU and now he is in Transitional Care at Torrance Memorial. This morning, 5/26, he was able stand and walk down the hallway with a walker + the assistance of two PT nurses!

Chris has a long road ahead of him, but his spirit is high. He has the support of his father, Monte, and his sister, Taylor, and they truly appreciate prayers and well wishes for his heart to recover fully.

Please continue to keep Chris and the Schmeiser family in your prayers.  Updates to follow!
