Hi everyone. I am Chloe Taber, the survivor in the news article. If you'd like to read the whole article, it is on the Mankato Free Press, or you can Google my name, it can also be found on Fox 9 and the Newsbreak app!
At just 14 years old, a stranger at the time broke in and sexually assaulted me, threatening my life in the process. It was terrifying. I was diagnosed with PTSD, night terrors, nightmares, anxiety, and depression after the attack.
In May 2023, I received a call telling me they had a DNA hit. Since that day, my entire life changed. I have been to every hearing, and I want to be a voice for others. The trial was held last year in 2024, where he was found guilty of all four counts. Sentencing is being held on June 2nd.
The last 3 weeks now, I have struggled incredibly to do anything at all. My doctor said I am having a trauma response triggered by the sentencing coming up. I plan to read a victim impact statement at that hearing as well. It is an open public hearing if anybody is interested in coming for support.
I made this GoFundMe in hopes of getting help with bills and getting caught up, and help us out so I can take some time off work to cope and work on my mental health. My doctor signed me off to take time off, but my work does not have paid time, and we don't get PTO for the first 3 years of employment. I have 4 kids, and I am struggling. During this time, if everyone who sees this could even donate $5, it would help me to be able to focus on what truly matters right now.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you will consider helping me care for my family in order to give myself time to heal from all of this.
Update: Sentencing was today- he was sentenced to 30 years in prison! Thank you for all the help. Im still struggling financially as I have since been laid off from work. Any help means the world
