Finally, the update we have all been waiting for- After 17 days on the run, Charlie is safe at HOME!
Dr. Joe and the wonderful staff at Rusty Ridge Animal Center in Minooka, Illinois graciously made time to examine Charlie this morning. Although he has lost an alarming amount of weight, I am thrilled to report that Charlie managed to avoid any major injuries. He is feeling extra attached to his mom, Megan, following his rescue, but still seems to be his loving self!
Charlie had dozens of ticks removed and is covered in mosquito bites. Accuplex and Keyscreen panels were performed to test for heartworm, Lyme disease and other vector-borne diseases and GI parasites, and a rabies booster and Lyme vaccination were administered. He was also tested for Giardia. High caloric canned food was prescribed, while Capstar and Heartguard have been given at home.
Megan is beyond fortunate to have not one, but TWO wonderful employers that allowed her to prioritize her search for Charlie. Due to relinquished shifts, she has understandably taken a financial hit. Our first donation goal was allocated for multiple thermal drone searches, additional supplies for recovery and part of his vet visit.
As results from today’s visit are pending for the next 24-48 hours, we’re staying hopeful that further care and treatment will not be needed. Those interested in making a small donation towards his remaining bill of $270 are welcome to do so here, or send funds directly to Megan via Venmo.

I know Megan has repeatedly expressed her gratitude for everyone’s continued investment in Charlie, but I’d like to do the same. It has been nothing short of incredible to watch someone I love be so supported when she needed it most. Truly, thank you!
