My nephew Charlie was born with a heart defect and was only given a 5% chance of survival. He has had multiple surgeries to repair his heart since he was born. This kid is so strong and such a fighter! He became sick in January. He went to the ER three times as well as a trip to urgent care, all times sent home being told he had a stomach bug. Charlie continued to have a few good days and then a few sick days. On Saturday February 15th, they took him 3 hours away to Children's hospital in OKC since they are better equipped for Charlie's cardiac side of things. He was diagnosed with norovirus and sent home with a treatment plan. On the way home from the ER, he went into cardiac arrest. After being resuscitated and shocked twice by the paramedics on the side of the highway, he was rushed to the nearest hospital where he was stabilized. He was then rushed to OU children's hospital. The first few days were very touch and go. The doctors believe Charlie had been experiencing arrhythmias while also having norovirus which has created the perfect storm. Charlie has made great strides but still has a very long road ahead of him. He has a bacterial infection in his heart that will require 6-8 weeks of IV antibiotics. Once the infection is cured Charlie will then undergo a very extensive surgery to correct a series of issues in his heart.

Children's hospital is a 3 hour drive from home for my sister and brother-in-law, with this being said they need help. They are the only two allowed in the room right now and have already been there a week. While Charlie is fighting to recover and come home my brother-in-law and sister are missing work to be by his side. Along with the stacking medical bills, they are away from home and their 2 girls, having to pay on site for laundry, care items for themselves, etc. while at the hospital.
