Support Charise with her fight against cancer and repairing flood damage
After hearing what I'm going through my sisters recommended I open a Go Fun Me account. I, Charise McCarthy, have fallen on hard times. I’m in need of some financial help. On August 16, 2025 for the first time in 40 years, the basement flooded. I was devastated. So much had to be thrown out including a couch, wall to wall carpeting, and a lot of my teaching supplies and over 500 story books which was 4 trash cans full. The flood came up through the sewer which was muddy. Removing the couch and a shelf, three cracks were discovered in the foundation. Just cleaning out the pipes and sealing the cracks will cost about $20,000. Then add on replacing the couch and some carpet.

I am fighting Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma stage 4 cancer for the past six and a half years. Lots of time is spent at the hospital and doctors' office. Yes, I was bald for a while. Not in remission yet. Because of all the chemo and other drugs, the kidney started to fail and I had to start nightly kidney dialysis.

Going on medical leave from school (taught first grade for 20 years) was not a choice. I had to retire in June 2025 because it was getting too hard physically and was taking a toll on my body. The school district insurance policy was wonderful but lost that and had to go on Medicare. My funds are limited.

Charise has had many treatments including six different chemos, a bone marrow transplant, a stem cell transplant and even had shingles amongst other things. The latest chemo treatment seems to be working the best. However, the new insurance does not want to cover the cost of this treatment. It was denied. The doctor has filed an appeal. There has been no results yet on approving this treatment. I cannot afford chemotherapy.

I was an active PTA mom for my 3 son’s school before returning to college to finish my Bachelors and Masters degree at Concordia University. I was a girl scout for 15 years. Organized Flea markets at my son’s school and later at the school I was teaching at. They were great fund raisers. I also did the school yearbook amongst many other things. I'm an avid Snoopy collector and McDonalds too.

Any amount will be appreciated!

UPDATE - I FELL. On Sunday October 12 while in the bathroom I fell headfirst over the side of the dry bathtub pulling the shower curtain down around me. I hit the top of my head. Soon I could not breath being wrapped in the shower curtain, so the first thing was to get it off enough to get air. then flipped my body out of the tub. I was in shock. My phone was in the other room on the charger. so I waited a bit then scooted over to the phone and called for help. I was in the hospital for 7 days. I have a subdural hematoma (a crack in the scull) I was lucky there was no internal bleeding.
ALWAYS put your phone in your pocket - Just in case!

Update again
On December 22 I was told that I beat the Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. No more chemo! yippie...BUT on February 5, I was told I have skin cancer! Will it ever end?
