I am not someone who ever asks for help or a handout, but I simply do not have any options at this point. Here is my situation.
My husband left me over a year ago. He moved out without any notice or explanation, so I had no opportunity to prepare. He left 11 cents in our joint bank account and blocked my access to the joint credit card. I have been doing my best to cover all of the bills he used to pay. The bills add up to more than my monthly income. I used up all of my savings to cover the difference and maxed out my one and only credit card.
I received the divorce decree on Saturday. Due to not having money for legal representation and not fully understanding the process I made some errors during the divorce proceedings. I did not upload my evidence into the portal in a timely fashion, so the judge disregarded it completely.
I have been granted no spousal support, and I am required to pay my ex-husband $24,000. Our kids and I have 45 days to vacate our home. I was already in a financial hardship and now I have to find housing ASAP as well.
My ex-husband is a CEO, and I work as a Secretary at a public school. Needless to say, the income disparity is immense.
What I need help with is money to pay for an appeal. The least expensive route I found will cost $6,000. I simply do not have that kind of money. I know I have been wronged and want to challenge the divorce decree.
The scales of justice are unbalanced! I know my story is not uncommon. Please help me do what I can to fight back instead of allowing an unjust system win.
