Hi, my name is Carlos Avina, and this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write.

On April 15, 2025, I received a knock at the door that changed everything. Two constables stood outside with a court order—an eviction and lockout notice. I was given no time to collect any of my belongings. Everything I own—my clothes, important documents, work items, and personal memories—was left behind.

What makes this even more difficult is that I’m currently undergoing cancer treatment. Navigating health challenges without the security of a home or access to my necessities has pushed me to the edge. The emotional and physical toll is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

The eviction wasn’t because of anything I did. It came as a result of a legal action involving my landlord and The Bank of New York Mellon (as Trustee for CWABS, Inc., Asset-Backed Certificates, Series 2005-AB2). I was blindsided and left to figure things out with nothing.

But there is hope. On April 23, 2025, I was approved for a new condo—my chance to start over. I can move in immediately, but I’m falling short on funds due to missed work hours and medical appointments.

This is not easy for me to ask. I’ve always taken pride in handling things on my own. But right now, I need help. Your support will go directly toward:

• Basic furnishings & essentials

• Transportation & moving expenses

• Continued access to treatment
