What was supposed to be a normal Girl Scout camping trip turned into a cat rescue mission when three underweight cats bravely ventured down in search of food and affection. The troop subsequently learned that a ranger had been laid off and simply left the three cats behind when she packed up to leave.

One of the cats has been taken in by a family, and the other two (tentatively named Jack and Ginny) are in our spare room. They are very clearly a bonded pair, so much so that Ginny has been observed giving Jack back massages when not sleeping pressed against his side on top of their preferred heating pad and blanket.

Spaying and neutering were taken care of first, though Jack also had a cut on his leg (note his dashing green bandage in the photos) and needed the usual exam and meds that any abandoned cat in the woods would. Ginny will be going in for her exam soon, though she seems a bit healthier overall.

We’re not sure yet if we’ll end up keeping the two or trying to find a home for them, but we know we did the right thing and are enjoying watching them become secure and playful after a couple days spent hiding beneath the bookshelf.
